It’s been 50 years since the Black Knight completed his career Grand Slam—his 1965 U.S. Open victory made him the youngest ever, at age 29, to win all four of golf’s majors—but Gary Player is still young at heart.
In St Andrews last month to take part in the Champions’ Golfer Challenge, the curtain raiser to the 144th Open Championship, the South African legend conducted an impromptu lesson with youngsters attending the Kids’ Golf Festival at Fairmont St Andrews.
The nine-time Major winner shared advice and individual tips with the juniors, aged three to seven, while also conducting a short demonstration on the Fairmont St Andrews’ driving range.
The event, which was promoted by Golphinforkids, the creator of a range of high-tech new lightweight, child-friendly golf clubs, helped launch a week of activities at the Fairmont resort during the Open.
