More bubbles, a little wine and some after dinner treats. Let’s kick off the season with some bubbly…
Bottega Gold Prosecco: 1.5 litres $59.95 LCBO, Italy Party Time: If this doesn’t get your party started nothing will. The sight of the sparkling gold monster bottle alone will put a smile on all your guests’ faces whether it is Christmas or in celebration of the New Year. As bright as the bottle it comes in, this is refreshing yet dry sparkling bubbles. Have fun with this one. |

Laboure-Gontard: Cremant De Bourgone Brut – $19.95 LCBO, France Made of 100% Pinot Noir in the traditional method of Champagne. Medium bodied, refreshing rose. Fresh scent of red fruits and citrus ending in a lovely, long finish. Perfect pre-turkey drink. I will be picking up a few more bottles of this one! |
First Press Chardonnay 2015: $24.95, Napa Valley California – USA A perfect turkey accompaniment. A full bodied white with hints of lemon, peach and vanilla – subtle oak, wonderful finish. First Press Cabernet Sauvignon: $25.95 – ranks right up there with this one if you prefer red. |
Masi Campofiorin – Ripasso 2014: $21.95, Italy I have been drinking this Italian red for years. Solid, full bodied, deep ruby red in colour with dominating flavours of cherries and red berry fruit – soft finish. Great with just about any meal so no doubt that it would be just fine with the big bird too! |
Farina Le Pezze Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2013: $34.95 So this might not be your best choice for a turkey wine. But personally I would drink Amarone with almost anything! Spoiled wino. Sooooooooo good! And we should not assume that everyone has turkey. Lamb or even steak would be a great Christmas meal. A classic Amarone intense in character and colour. Rich in complex dark fruit, mocha and vanilla! Great value in Amarone! |
After dinner libations…
Fonseca Late Bottled Vintage Port 2011: $18.95, Portugal Late Bottled Vintage is always my go to when it comes to Port as it tends to maintain the scent of quality reds that usually proceed the Port. This is an unfiltered field blend that comes with a bar top cork. Intense in flavour with a hint of sweetness and supported by solid structure. The Right Night Cap! |
Courvoisier VSOP Cognac: $90.95, France The look and shape of the bottle may have changed over the years but there is a reason as to why Courvoisier has been the toast of Paris since 1889! This VSOP is an exquisitely balanced cognac with elegant aromas of peach, jasmine and toasted almond. Enjoy the enduring finish. |
