…and it is the end of the month to boot. Moving away from the real cheapies for this month although we will get back to some of those occasionally. After all who doesn’t like cheapy wines now and then. Summer is coming and some guzzling on a deck here or there is bound to happen.

It was also birthday month, so there were a couple of special bottles for one special dinner along with the beef. Yes, one was Amarone and the other you will have to check out for yourself. From one of my all-time favorite vineyards in California.

Some interesting whites made the favorites list. One very overpriced but the other 2, were great value.

Rodney Strong Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018: $34.95 California, USA

What you can Expect: One of my birthday dinner wines. You know we are having beef and it is a perfect fir. Big, bold and a beautiful aroma when it opens up, smooth as silk going down.

Rock Point Pinot Gris 2019: $16.95 Oregon, USA

What you can Expect: characteristics, intense pear and peach notes, as well as great weight and texture. Crisp, dry and full bodied. A treat to say the least from a great region for whites.

Zenato Amarone della Valpolicella Classico: $52.95 Veneto, Italy

What you can Expect: Birthday bottle #2, you had to know this one with beef on the menu. A big and powerful, Amarone. Rich and plush, with luscious chocolate, licorice, prune, nutty and floral flavors. Demands a hearty meal like barbecued back ribs, rack of lamb or steak.

Rivera Il Falcone Riserva Castel del Monte: $24.95 Puglia, Italy

What you can Expect: Medium to full bodied, very aromatic and flavorful. Great with any red meats or spicy foods

Volver Single Vineyard 2018: $23.95 Tempranillo, Spain

What you can Expect: deeply colored with hints of plum, black cherries and dark berry. Finishes with sharp clarity and very good length, leaving, mocha and coffee. Bang for the buck here.

Morande Gran Reserva Chardonnay 2019: $16.25 Chile

What you can expect: A very serious chardonnay, especially at this price. Golden yellow in color, refreshing, fruity, you might even notice a hint of olives if you like olives that is. Great body and full of flavor, long smooth finish. Big Bang for the buck here!!

Auntsfield Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2019: $29.95 New Zealand, Chardonnay

What you can Expect: a refreshing, full bodied classic chardonnay. Overpriced, but then it did come from far far away.

Ferreira Late Bottled Vintage Port 2015: $26.95 Douro, Portugal

What you can Expect: You probably know by now that I only drink Late Bottle Vintage. Elegant and pointed, this well-structured LBV has plenty of grip and flavor on the finish.
